Shakespeare Monologues for Young Men
William Shakespeare (Author) Luke Dixon (Editor)

As a young actor at any level-whether it be school exam, drama-school entrance or professional casting - you are likely to be called upon to perform a speech from Shakespeare. A great deal will depend on your coming up with something fresh that is suited both to your particular performing skills and to the purposes of the audition. Which is where this volume of The Good Audition Guide comes in.

Drawing on his extensive experience as a theatre director and in drama training - including teaching numerous courses in auditioning with Shakespeare's speeches - Luke Dixon has chosen forty monologues for young male actors from across the whole of Shakespeare's canon.

Each monologue comes with a neat summary of the vital information (the who, where and when of the speech), plus descriptions of what is happening, what to think about when preparing it, and a glossary. There is also a user-friendly introduction to selecting your speech, tackling Shakespeare's language and approaching the audition itself.

The monologues are presented in the order in which they appear in Shakespeare's First Folio (Comedies, Histories, Tragedies), but are also broken down into useful categories, should you be looking for a high- or low-status role, a comic character, one in love, and so on.
